AWOL Canyoning

The West Coast Gallery

This Coastal Gallery comprises a surprising array of quality artwork from over 200 local artists, including pottery, weaving, paintings, photography, sculpture, mosaics and glassware. Open Wednesday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm. Situated in the Old Fire Station, Piha Road, Piha Beach, Waitakere Ranges, Auckland.

A more remote surf beach where rugged rainforest meets the dramatic black sand surf coast. Famous film location of the triple Oscar award-winning movie “The Piano”. Turnoff is clearly marked before Piha. There are no stores here - relax and enjoy the isolation. Take a walk to the Karekare waterfall which is a short walk up the road from the main car park.

Bethells (Te Henga)

Stunning surf beach with dramatic black sand dunes and craggy headlands - perfect picnic and photo location. Location for Xena TV series. Access via Scenic Drive, Swanson or Waitakere Road, Waitakere, West Auckland. Direction found on West Auckland map from the index. For a real work out discover Lake Wainamu.


Bethells Store & Cafe

Summer opening hours start from Labour Weekend (October) to Queens Birthday weekend (April) Saturday and Sunday 10am to 6pm. Open on Friday nights from December 5-9pm.
Winter hours Sunday only 10am to 5pm.
